The Hodges Critical Zone Biogeochemistry Lab believes that everyone should have equal access to science, and we strive to create an environment that welcomes and respects diversity in all its forms—including cultural, racial, religious, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and mental wellbeing.
We value scientists as people first, and we want to celebrate the diverse array of perspectives that make progress possible. We actively support the lab group—as individuals and as a collective—to take actions that interrupt discrimination. We engage in regular discussions on anti-racism, encourage individual training on disrupting workplace harassment, re-evaluate our laboratory and fieldwork policies for potential bias, and maintain a history of undergraduate research experience through programs targeting underrepresented students. This list is far from exhaustive, and we welcome prospective lab members to share new ideas on how to support all forms of diversity in the lab, department, campus, and broader community.
